Victor Donovic the Australian representative and two time previous champion is the hot favorite to win the title this year. His new playing strategy of CKD (Crush, Kill, Destroy) has been instrumental in winning three lead up tournaments to these championships. He is currently being quoted at even money odds to win.
Other contenders from China (Lin Bin-Seann), Taiwan (Chi Wi Ding)and India (Ravi Gulap) have been playing a very low key approach in the lead up. The mood at the venue hotel (Peninsular Hotel, Bangkok) has been building over the last few days as the players have arrived from the four corners off the globe.
The first elimination rounds start on February 26 with the finals being on Saturday March 1st. Total prize money for the tournament is US$1 million with first prize being $500,000.
